VISHAKHAPATNAM: It had been ‘the most joyous’ moment for more than a dozen schoolchildren here. For it was none other than President A P J Abdul Kalam himself who greeted and complimented them.
Brushing aside the protocol on Sunday, the President after the students sang ‘Sarae Jahaan Se Accha..,’ penned by renowned poet Iqbal, as part of beating the retreat during the naval operations display at the RK Beach here, stepped down from the dais and mingled with the children.
While the joy for the students of Naval School knew no bounds on seeing the President ‘in person,’ equally elated seemed to be the President himself. The children’s voice had such synchronisation that it left everybody including the chief guest touched.
“We cannot believe that the President of the country came and shook hands with us. Not just that. He even asked our names and our interests,” said five-year-old Rohan along with Asna, Krithika, Shweta, Hema, Anirudh, Firat, Anushka, Shantanu, Aishwarya, Ayshi, Megha and others.
The President continued to talk to the children who later posed for a picture with their favourite President.
